How to restore a sweater that has shrunk

Don't rush to throw away your sweater after it shrinks. It can often be restored to its original shape through a combination of fiber softening and physical stretching. The most commonly used and effective method is to soak it in warm water with conditioner or fabric softener, or use a steam iron to heat and stretch it. ‌‌‌

The most effective soaking method
This method is gentle in operation and suitable for most sweaters made of wool and cashmere. It utilizes conditioner or softener to "relax" the tightened fibers. ‌‌‌

Prepare a basin of warm water at 30-40℃ (slightly cool to the touch, not hot), add an appropriate amount of hair conditioner, baby shampoo, or fabric softener, and mix them well.
Soaking and Water Absorption: Immerse the shrunk sweater completely in water and let it sit for 15-30 minutes to allow the fibers to fully absorb and soften. After soaking, do not wring it out vigorously. Instead, wrap the sweater in a dry towel and press to absorb excess moisture.
Stretching and Drying: While the sweater is slightly wet and soft, stretch it evenly in all directions by hand. Stretch any areas that are too short by 1-2 centimeters each time, repeating the process multiple times. Finally, lay it flat in a well-ventilated place to dry, avoiding hanging which can cause further deformation
